Test: Drinking cola for 1 week

No gallbladder and Pepsi Max

After my test on eating fried chicken, I made another test – drinking 1 glass of cola per day for 1 week. And since I already drank a glass in the fast food, I only needed 6 more days.

I was thinking like, how will my system react if I drink cola for 1 week? Knowing that I now live a life without gallbladder.

It so happened that when we went to SM Cebu grocery they have a bonus promo. And the first thing I saw was the pack of 3 Pepsi Max. So I checked the price on the pack and compared to the individual bottles. And it was less and also had a free ketchup. But before I put the pack in the push cart, I checked on the expiry date. And the best before date was way to far – May 14, 2010. So, I added the Pepsi Max trio in the cart.

Test: Eating fried chicken in fast food

No gallbladder and KFC fried chicken

I made a test yesterday. Eating a KFC fried chicken. A test on how it goes on my digestive system – without gallbladder.

Fried chicken and gravy in fastfood – I don’t know what’s the total fat content of this. What I know is that this food should be avoided for the person without gallbladder. It falls under the “foods to avoid” in food list: Fatty foods – fried meats.

Fasting
My fasting for KFC fried chicken for about 5 months ended yesterday. Since my first gallstone attack last August 2009, I stopped eating KFC fried chicken. Then came yesterday, my wife and I decided to eat lunch in the mall since we were going to buy our weekly consumption. My wife said that I should take the breast part because it has all meat and less skin. But I said no. I want to eat my favorite part – the thigh.

Foods for person with no gallbladder

My internist, Dra. Joan Singidas, gave me this list before I underwent a gallbladder removal through lap chole (laparoscopic cholecystectomy) surgery. The list of foods to avoid and foods to include. She told me to just avoid the foods in the foods to avoid column and observe within one week if would experience again another gallstone attack. That was Sept. 15, 2009.

But 3 days later, my wife’s friend arrived from Manila and invited us for lunch. Food is served. Although I only ate seafoods; fish and shellfish that belong to foods to include, I was not spared with gallstone attack. I then realized that there is also one food under foods to avoid that gives flavor to one of my favorite, baked scallops – the butter. And maybe cheese and oil.

And 3 days after, I ended in the clinic of Dr. Don Edward Rosello (General & Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery, Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery, Surgical Endoscopy, Bariatric Surgery), to ask for his opinion. To which, I was scheduled for laparoscopic cholecystectomy procedure last Oct. 1, 2009.
