Eating Ice Cream

selecta double dutch - very rocky road

Eating Selecta Ice Cream

My two favorite flavors put into one container, this is the Selecta Double Supreme – Double Dutch & Very Rocky Road. It is in 750ml, enough to comfort one’s cravings and share to love ones. Not for a big family though.

I wondered if any of the ingredients can trigger diarrhea, gas pains, and other stomach discomforts. In label it listed all the ingredients as follows: water, refined sugar, chocolate ripple, palm oil, glucose syrup, marshmallows, buttermilk powder, skimmed milk powder, chocolate chips, peanuts, whey powder, modified food starch, cashew nuts, cocoa powder, soya lecithin, food emulsifiers and stabilizers, artificial food flavors, and artificial food colors. But only the cocoa was in the list of foods to avoid.

I ate the ice cream after my dinner and I only ate one serving. I took a small part of the Very Rocky Road because it’s my wife’s favorite and most on the Double Dutch. And I managed to savor the marshmallows, peanuts, cashew nuts, and the chocolate chip.

After eating, I thought about how my digestive system react. But a few hours later, I felt no abdominal pain, no stomach discomfort, no upset stomach, no diarrhea, no gas pains, nothing.

Today, after about 15 hours, I can say that I am now safe to eat ice cream without gallbladder and not worrying that my digestive organs will react. I can eat ice cream even though I no longer have gallbladder.

Or maybe it is because that I only eat in moderation – one serving. Yet still I don’t have a gallbladder.

  1. What a great idea for a blog!!! There are TONS of people out there living without a gallbladder (my grandma is one of them) – and I’ve never seen a blog solely devoted to the experience. Thanks!

  2. Good day, Im on my 3rd week post operation, they took out 10 stones from my gallbladder and one from my bile duct, im 42 this year with no pain prior and just a sudden jaundice of skin. I would wish to exchange experiences from people with the same bile duct as mine, I am still on T-tube this week.
    Thank you so much..

  3. It’s definitely frustrating that sometimes you can’t eat some food or if not limited to.

    Why, is she lactose intolerant?

  4. Has anyone on here any experience of them? from what I’ve read on the internet, some people say they now get too much bile in the intestines (resulting in diahrear) and some say they don’t get enough bile and take supplements to help digest fatty meals and avoid diahrear…ie, nothing conclusivve.
    +1

  5. Eating variety of foods even processed ones like ice cream should always be down in moderation especially for people who have compromised body systems.

Masarap nga kasi ang ice cream hehehe…

  6. Thanks for your website.

I’m having my gallbladder out soon & am wondering what to expect.

Last week I had an ERCP & a gallstone removed from the bile duct after a lot of pain & jaundice.

It seems that everyone knows someone who had it done & say they can’t eat spicy foods, fatty foods, have caffeine…and the list goes on.

Do you take digestive enzymes or bile salts before eating the nice foods?

    • I don’t take any digestive enzymes or bile salts before eating either regular meals or heavy meals.

But I know one that take a tablet before eating meals, I just forgot the name of the medicine. This is suppose to help with the digestion of food.

I’ve also read about a tablet that is taken before meal, which help in neutralizing acid and help reducing the formation of gas. But I haven’t tried it, it is not available in the Philippines.

      • Hello, I take Esomeprazole Nexium 40 mg which is available in Mercury Drug and South Start Outlets. I take this before breakfast… just one tablet a day. This helps a lot in reducing the formation of gas and food digestion.

        • I took Nexium before my gallbladder operation. It was prescribed to me when the doctor diagnosed me of having an acid reflux.

I’m not sure if it helps in reducing the formation of gas and food digestion. I will check about it.

    • Not all fat is bad. And not all ice cream is rich in fat.

But you have a point I did not saw nutrition facts on the label of Selecta Double Supreme Ice Cream – Double Dutch & Very Rocky Road. So, I’m not sure the nutrient contents especially fat – saturated fat and trans fat.

But on the other hand, I did not experience a diarrhea. And I can eat ice cream after gallbladder surgery.
