First birthday without gallbladder

Happy 31st Birthday to me!

But wait, am I happy with my birthday today?

Yes and No.

Yes, because I spent the celebration together with my loved ones. My family, my wife and my son together with my wife’s godchild and my son’s nanny, visited my parents house where we ate lunch. My two sisters and my niece were present and a close friend was also there.

And of course, the main piece of the gathering was the FOOD! Wow! Delicious! My favorites were there but then again the words of my surgeon popped up as warning sign. My surgeon, Dr. Rosello and my internist, Dra. Singidas prohibited told me that I should eat low fat and avoid oily foods.

Thus my other answer if i am happy during my big day reflects on food. I wasn’t able to eat my favorite ice cream – rocky road. charcoal-grilled chicken, which had a tempting aroma, was a no-no that I really missed eating the chicken skin. and the pork cuts to end the list of food that I only looked at. I only ate half of shanghai roll, small serving of pancit – for long life, and the bony bangus fish.

Although I can eat a minimal amount of those foods but I did not dare. I chose what I ate because I don’t want to have a sudden colic attack. Not only that it is really painful but also I am not yet financially ready to undergo an ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography) procedure. And I am no longer covered with insurance since the 100K per illness limit was already used before and during my lap chole (Laparoscopic cholecystectomy) surgery to remove my gallbladder.

I am supposedly scheduled to undergo ERCP within this week as per advice of my surgeon but for now i will just take the advice of my gastroenterologist, Dra. Moscoso, to observe if there will be another colic attack within few days and to have a laboratory exam first prior to the ERCP procedure.

And my birthday wishes – same as my new year wishes:
1. good health – totally recovered from the lap chole procedure, no more colic attack, no more ERCP procedure.
2. financial stability – monies, so that i can pay the IOU’s during my last hospitalization last dec. 12 to 15.
